Facing daily discrimination in the form of negative
attitudes, lack of adequate policies and legislation,
they are effectively barred from realizing their
rights to healthcare, education, and even survival.
Estimates suggest that there are at least 93 million
children with disabilities in the world, but numbers
could be much higher. They are often likely to be
among the poorest members of the population. They
are less likely to attend school, access medical
services, or have their voices heard in society. Their
disabilities also place them at a higher risk of
physical abuse, and often exclude them from
receiving proper nutrition or humanitarian
assistance in emergencies.

Rajib and Srabani felt the need for a different
learning environment for their daughter who suffered from Down’s syndrome. They felt that the
regular schools are not equipped to help children
who are differently abled. They then setup SRISTI,
a small school that can work with kids who need
special attention and a playful environment which

will help them learn and develop the basic skills at
their own pace. Today their child, Adrija, now 25
years of age, passed Higher Secondary
Examination and is trained in Computer.
Setup in 1998, Sristi continued catering to a
continuously growing demand. In 2002, the
institution was registered as a Non-Profitable
organization under the new name Morning Glory
Integrated School. The school is also registered
under Persons with Disability Act.
Under the Income tax registration the school
aligns with exemption under section 80G.

From 5 students in 1998, this school has steadily
grown and served 76 students. But after Covid
we are supporting 40 students daily. Most of the
students come from low-income families.
The school offers day care training centre for
mentally challenged, autistic and kids suffering
from Cerebral palsy.
This training includes functional academics,
life skill training, social skills training,
vocational training, Speech therapy,
Occupational therapy, movement and dance
therapy, physiotherapy and psychological
parental counselling to enable them for
independent living.

While we enable the children with various skills, we
understand that inclusivity is also a key aspect to
work on. So we regularly organize awareness
creation camps and Identification and Assessment
camps. We also organize training programs for
parents & siblings and Parental counselling.
- Facilities & Staff -
6 rooms that operate as Group Activity unit
Educational training unit, Vocational/
Physiotherapy unit.
There are 6 special educators, a dance teacher
and a singing teacher
Support staff includes -2 helper & 1 cook, 1
security staff, 1 office assistant.
- Challenges -
o No funding since last 3 years. Covid has hit us
hard.
o Continuity of trained staff has been a constant
challenge owing to paucity of funds. This is a major concern as it becomes challenging for the
kids to adapt to continuous change.
